Greater Austin Dance Academy COMPANY
GADA has TWO opportunities for kids who want to have more study than weekly dance classes.
GADA DANCE CO. is a program that is geared towards students that have a more serious outlook on dancing. These dancers want more than a yearly recital and commit to weekend rehearsals, in addition to weekly classes. Dancers are eligible to audition for the Company in 3rd grade-12th grade. Casting and groupings are determined from auditions, as well as class attendance, work ethic, ability level, and performance experience. Company members commit to weekly Saturday rehearsals, weekly tap, ballet and jazz class (at a minimum), and extra performances/master classes throughout the year.
GADA MUSICAL CO. is for kids who want to push their singing, acting AND dancing potential. Auditions are held in May. Students work on productions, mini-revues and other material while performing many times throughout the season. Students are required to take a weekly musical theater class at a minimum, as well as attend weekly Saturday rehearsals.
Why dance with us?
GADA Co. is a group of dancers who audition in May to perform in this extracurricular dance group. These students work hard, practice hard and make commitments. They love dance and want to do more than a once a year dance recital.
GADA Co. performs at community events, regional competitions, dance conventions, and other dance activities. In years past this has included master classes held at the studio, trips to NYC to see and take class from Broadway performers, classes and performances in Los Angeles and at Disneyland, etc.
What costs are involved?
Company members are required to take some summer classes, as well as participate in a summer intensive held the end of July/Aug at the studio. Monthly dues run June-May and are usually around $90/month PLUS the cost class tuition.
Monthly dues cover the costs of weekend rehearsals, choreography, most costuming, master classes, summer classes, summer intensives, conventions, and performance venues. Additional costs may include entry fees to dance performance evaluations and optional fees associated with optional travel and/or conventions.
Do these companies compete?
We are very upfront that we are NOT a competitive entity. GADA Company members may attend a convention with a competition element. However, we place equal importance on our spring concert, community performances, holiday shows and master classes. While we feel competition is a valid learning experience, we base our company philosophy more on the art of dance. There are many companies who choose to compete dance as a sport, and we applaud them for doing so well. However, we do not choreograph, cast or practice pieces to win. We set, create, and rehearse pieces to share an art form, to dance expressively from the heart, and to learn important life lessons while attempting to improve technique and overall skill as a dancer.
