Employment Type: Contract per season; flexible number of hours, with potential for 20+ hours per week if desired

Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Jazz Specialist and Dance Instructor to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in jazz dance, with the ability to teach advanced jazz classes and beginner to intermediate levels in a variety of other dance styles. This role may also involve assisting with our Heartsong Dance Company and/or Musical Storytellers Musical Theater Company.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach advanced jazz classes with a focus on technique, artistry, and performance.

  • Instruct beginner and intermediate classes in other styles, such as ballet, tap, hip-hop, or contemporary.

  • Choreograph and teach routines for annual spring recitals.

  • Assist with choreography and rehearsals for the Heartsong Dance Company and/or Musical Storytellers Musical Theater Company.

  • Mentor students, fostering their growth in both technical and creative aspects of dance.

  • Contribute to studio events, performances, and conventions as needed.

  • Assist with refining and improving the studio’s curriculum and pedagogy, especially for the jazz program.

  • Build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.

Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching and performing jazz at advanced levels.

  • Proficiency in a variety of dance styles for beginner and intermediate levels.

  • Choreographic experience, particularly in jazz or related styles.

  • Passion for working with students of all ages and skill levels.

  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • A collaborative spirit and a positive attitude.

Preferred Skills:

  • Degree in dance or related field.

  • Experience with musical theater dance styles and choreography.

  • Previous involvement with performance dance companies.

  • Familiarity with beginner to intermediate dance pedagogy.

Compensation:

  • Competitive hourly rate, commensurate with experience.
